Maintain

Professional garden care with an emphasis on plant health, timing, corrective pruning, and long-term vitality.

Landscape Stewardship & Maintenance

At Earth Aesthetics, maintenance is not a checklist—it is a relationship.

Living landscapes are constantly changing. Plants mature, seasons shift, weather patterns vary, and each year reveals new opportunities to better understand the needs of a property. Thoughtful stewardship requires observation, patience, and a willingness to work alongside these natural rhythms rather than against them.

For this reason, all Earth Aesthetics installations are accompanied by a three-year Landscape Stewardship Agreement.

The first year is dedicated to observation and understanding. We learn how the landscape responds through each season, how individual plants interact within their communities, and how the property behaves throughout a full annual cycle.

The second year is dedicated to refinement. Armed with a deeper understanding of the landscape, we make informed adjustments through pruning, editing, plant care, and management practices that encourage long-term health and beauty.

The third year is dedicated to maturity. By this stage, plant communities have begun to establish, systems are functioning more cohesively, and the results of thoughtful stewardship become increasingly visible. This is where a landscape begins to reveal its full potential.

Stewardship visits are tailored to the needs of each property. Most landscapes benefit from visits every two weeks, while larger or more intensive gardens may require weekly attention during the growing season. Our approach focuses on proactive care, allowing us to identify concerns early, respond to seasonal changes, and guide the landscape through each stage of development.

Services may include corrective and naturalistic pruning, perennial and shrub care, soil-building practices, seasonal garden management, disease and pest monitoring, plant community development, and other horticultural services as needed.

For clients who enjoy being active participants in the care of their landscapes, we also offer alternative stewardship pathways. Garden Guidance provides ongoing professional support through a monthly subscription with phone and remote consultation access, while Learn the Aesthetics offers one-on-one, on-site instruction for those who wish to develop their own horticultural knowledge and skills. These options may be paired with a lighter maintenance plan tailored to the property's needs and the client's desired level of involvement.

Our goal is not simply to maintain a landscape as it exists today, but to guide its continued growth and development over time. We believe exceptional landscapes are not created in a single season—they are cultivated through years of attentive care, informed decision-making, and a deep respect for the living systems that make them possible.

Our Garden’s Secrets

Some of the most beautiful moments in a landscape are the ones most often overlooked.

As an optional enhancement to our Landscape Stewardship Plans, Earth Aesthetics offers Our Garden's Secrets—a custom coffee table book celebrating the hidden beauty of your property. Throughout the seasons, we document the landscape's quiet details: the unfurling of a fern, the architecture of a seed head, morning dew resting on a rose petal, a pollinator at work, the texture of bark, changing light across a garden path, and countless other moments that often go unnoticed in daily life.

The result is a professionally printed hardcover volume featuring artistic photography captured within your landscape, accompanied by observations and reflections on the plants, seasonal rhythms, and natural relationships that make your property unique.

More than a collection of photographs, Our Garden's Secrets serves as a lasting record of the landscape's evolution and a reminder that beauty is often found in the smallest details. It is an opportunity to see your garden through the eyes of a steward—to discover the hidden stories unfolding just beyond the familiar view.

Project-Based Services

While many of our clients engage Earth Aesthetics through ongoing stewardship agreements, we also offer select project-based services for landscapes requiring specialized horticultural care.

These services may be performed as one-time projects, seasonal appointments, or as-needed visits depending on the scope of work and the needs of the landscape.

Each project begins with an understanding of the property's existing conditions, the health and needs of the plants involved, and the desired outcome. Our approach emphasizes thoughtful intervention, long-term plant health, and practices that work in harmony with the natural character of the landscape.

Many of our project-based services are performed alongside an existing landscape maintenance provider. When appropriate, Earth Aesthetics may consult with the property's primary landscaper to ensure that recommendations, pruning practices, treatment schedules, and overall management strategies work together in support of the landscape's long-term health and success.

Many project-based services begin with a treasured part of the landscape that holds significance to the property and its owners. Our role is to provide the specialized care and attention these features deserve while supporting the overall health, beauty, and integrity of the landscape as a whole.

Our specialties include:

  • Rose care and management

  • Boxwood care and management

  • Naturalistic and corrective pruning for ornamental trees and shrubs

  • Container garden design, planting, and maintenance

  • Disease and pest monitoring and control

  • Cut flower garden bloom management bouquets

Walk & Talk Consultation

Every landscape has a story to tell.

Our Walk & Talk Consultation is an opportunity for us to become acquainted with both your property and your vision for it. Together, we will walk the landscape, discuss your goals, identify challenges and opportunities, and evaluate the existing plant communities, structures, and natural features that make your property unique.

Just as importantly, this conversation allows us to get to know you. Understanding how you live, entertain, relax, garden, and interact with your outdoor spaces helps us develop recommendations that feel natural, functional, and deeply personal.

During our time together, we will discuss immediate concerns, long-term aspirations, and potential paths forward. Clients are encouraged to take notes throughout the consultation, as ideas, observations, and recommendations are often shared as we move through the property.

The Walk & Talk Consultation serves as the foundation for all future recommendations, design work, and stewardship plans, ensuring that any proposed approach is rooted in a thorough understanding of both the landscape and the people who call it home.
